Dear Hon. Judge Milian:
Whenever I get a chance, People’s Court TV is often one of my pass time TV shows. I believe that you kept the wisdom and temperament of Judge Joseph Wapner, who presided over the People’s Court TV from 1981 to 1993. Accordingly, I watch the program as time permits. However, I saw the other side of you today, June 2, 2009, in a case previewed with the following caption: “You have to surrender your badge!' In this case, you ridiculed, and condemned my country, Nigeria - leaving millions of fellow Nigerians sad, and disgusted. In your concluding remarks, meant to condemn the corrupt act of the cop in the case, you condemned Nigeria and Nigerians. Instead of deciding the case on its merit, you found it compelling to juxtapose the corrupt act of the cop with those you called “Nigerian scammers”. To publicly malign Nigeria and its citizens in this manner is totally uncalled for, and to say the least, mean-spirited.
Here is the point. There are scammers all over the world. If truth be told, every country has its own share of corrupt individuals and scammers. In fact, the case your Honor decided today proved that point beyond all doubts because neither the plaintiff nor the defendant is a Nigerian – both are Americans. Specifically, there are good, law-abiding Nigerians in the continent of Africa, and good Nigerians in the US, obeying the laws of the land, fulfilling their civic responsibilities and participating in the electoral process. Therefore, to use People’s Court TV show, watched by millions of Americans, as a vehicle to condemn Nigeria and Nigerians is totally out of line.
Your Honor, you owe Nigerians an apology through the same medium, People’s Court TV show. We await your apology.
